Hi! I'm not sure if you're able to help me, but I have a question about whether or not I should audition for the musical theatre program at a university near me. I love musical theatre more than anything, but my only problem is dance experience. I have very basic dance knowledge (as in, only show choir and musical at my high school) and I'm afraid that that'll be what keeps me from doing musical theatre. I still have 2 years until college, but I feel like that's not enough time to learn. Help?
Go for it! I have been attending a theater class lately and one of the first things they taught us was that your only as good as you say you are. For example, if you keep telling your self you are a bad actor then guess what your acting is going to be poor. (And same for dancing)! What you need to do is sit down and ask yourself what do I have control of and what I don’t have control of. You don’t have control of your age and height, but you do over your talent. It can’t harm to try if the director sees that you have this mentality and that you are a harder worker then someone who can dance, guess who they are going to choose (the answer is you!!). So go for it the worst thing that can happen is that you will come out of the audition knowing what it’s like to try out at a university level. Good luck, and please tell me how it goes and what musical you are trying for!!
